Unit History:
The Pale Horse Mercenaries were founded in 3021 by Commander William of Comstar. Dissatisfied with inadequate pay and equipment, William filed a complaint against the military ops commander of Comstar. He was fired for his actions, which were deemed "treasonous". Angry with his former employers, William struck out for the Solaris gaming world to make some quick cash. While there, he met with a sponsor who was hunting for fresh meat. This sponsor, while unwilling to enter William in any immediate contest, was glad to fund William on a series of one-man mercenary missions. As his repute grew from these fast and deadly "lightning" missions, William's employer began to send him on more dangerous missions. On October 17, 3020, while on one of these missions, a bomb destroyed the vehicle William was escorting, killing his employer and the VIP. William completed the assignment, and filed papers to claim all of his employer's assets as his own.
Now realizing that he needed more warriors, William ventured to Terra in search of fellow MechWarriors. Here, he met Philip. After a short talk, Philip admitted to being asked by Comstar to join their ranks, but he had refused on monetary grounds.  William offered Philip a place in his mercenary group, still without a name but now taking a definite shape. Philip agreed to William's terms, but only if his friend, Victor, could have a place in the group as well. A little reluctant to agree, William did so nonetheless. His next stop to find Mechwarriors was in Kurita space. An old friend had contacted him, informing him of a potential client. Once there, William ventured to a local bar, as directed by his friend. Here he met Adams, who was to become William's second Mechwarrior. Now running out of cash, he began to look for a client in need of his services.
The anti-mercenary hostilities of the locals quickly became apparent when William and his comrades were set upon by a local gang. The gang wanted to fight his people in a highly-illegal competition between two lances of 'mechs. At the time, with access only to a run-down AS7-D Atlas, two Dragons, and a Jenner, William appeared to be the sure loser. This was not the case. William, using his skills in a smaller 'mech, was able to use his Dragon to put down two of the enemy 'mechs. Adams stayed behind in the Jenner, and Philip and Victor took down the other two gangsters. The gang proceeded to offer William their respect, and suggested the name "Pale Horse Mercenaries" after the biblical Apocalyptic Horseman of death. By now, it was late May of 3021.
In less than a year, William had built up a massive reputation and a small fortune. They were not always able to complete a job but were hired over and over nonetheless. With the money came engineers, technicians, and scientists to upgrade his machines. His forces had grown to eight people, two lances. The first lance, Kappa Lance, consisted of William, Victor, Philip, and Adams. The second lance, Delta Lance, consisted of Harris, Perez, and Blake. The clan attack changed everything.
In the year before the clans attacked the Inner Sphere, jobs were plentiful, and tensions were high. William and his crew were doing very well. Then, they were sent on a job to the borders of explored space. Here, William and his warriors clashed with Jade Falcon warriors. The Falcons were sent packing, but William recognized an advantage when he saw one. His warriors managed to capture a Jenner IIC, but they had suffered heavy losses. He quickly reorganized into Stars, after the clan warriors, and hired a woman named Greer. She seemed very shifty, always seeming to suggest she wanted contact with the Falcons for some reason.
While finishing up a recon mission for Steiner in 3059, William was cornered by a clanner in a Warhammer IIC. The warrior fought with great skill, nearly destroying William's new Blood Asp, but he prevailed in the end. He got out of the Blood Asp to examine the remains of the enemy vehicle, only to discover the strangest sight he had ever seen. Not only was the expert fighter a woman, but she was apparently not a clanner by birth. Intrigued, he took the unconscious pilot back to headquarters with him. After roughly a year, they were married.
